Alpha 4.10.2 is on the PTU, Star Citizen’s public test servers, for all backers, and CIG said on October 5 that it is targeting a release to the live game this week. The patch brings a new event to the Stanton system, a rewrite of the netcode behind loose physics objects, much larger refinery capacities and a fix for the “Duplicate Login” kick.
Nothing here is on the live servers yet, and PTU notes change from build to build. This article covers the five public test builds posted between September 25 and October 5, so treat the list as provisional until the live release notes arrive.
When Alpha 4.10.2 goes live
CIG’s weekly update of October 5 says the teams are targeting the live release of 4.10.2 this week. That is a target rather than a confirmed date, and CIG points to Spectrum, its official forum, for the announcement.
Public testing started with Wave 1 on September 25 and widened in steps. Waves are how CIG opens a test build to more backers over time. Since the October 3 build the audience has been All Waves, which means every backer can download it. The PTU channel runs on US servers only, and long term persistence is enabled, so test characters keep their items between builds.
- September 25: Wave 1, build 12770507
- September 29 and October 1: Wave 3, builds 12811422 and 12839153
- October 3: all backers, build 12852255
- October 5: all backers, build 12858901
The new in-system event in Stanton
The main addition is a set of new event missions in Stanton, the starting system. The notes do not give the event a name yet, but they show its shape. It is built from contracts of several kinds, including patrol, support, courier, mining, salvage, logistics and refuelling work, plus a Scavenger Hunt contract and missions to eliminate a specific target.
Progress is tracked with event points shown in the journal on your mobiGlas, the wrist computer. CIG says points are now split across mission types and that the order in which missions unlock has been rebalanced. Rewards include ship components and badges attributed to your account.
- Ship rentals can now be handed out directly as a contract reward, and the one-time courier contract uses this
- Voice comms were added to the patrol and support mission flows
- Heavy armored enemies in the event now carry the correct weapons and are tougher to bring down
- Salvage contract descriptions now confirm you may keep any RMC, the material salvaged from hulls, that you recover
- Mining and salvage contract descriptions now state that excess materials will not be refunded
- Salvage reward values were rebalanced, and more unmanned ships were added to the contract pool
- Civilian NPCs were removed from the underground facility locations after playthrough feedback
Physics networking overhaul
The October 5 build adds a rewrite of the netcode that controls how loose physics objects, such as crates, behave across the network. CIG explains that the old system had the client treat the server’s view of an object as either completely right or completely wrong. One bad state could turn into lasting desync, rubber-banding, and objects that slid or bounced for no visible reason.
The new system gives incoming server data a trust score instead. Trust drops when your client has just done something the server cannot know about yet, like bumping into a crate, or when the server’s information is stale. Corrections arrive as small velocity nudges rather than teleports. A teleport is the last resort, used only after a check confirms the destination is clear, and the tolerances scale with your latency and the size of the object.
For now this applies to freely simulated objects. Ships and vehicles still use the previous system. CIG says the feature is switched on by a console variable and that it intends to leave it on unless testing goes badly wrong.
Refineries, Distribution Centers and ship retrieval
Several smaller gameplay changes arrived during the Wave 3 builds.
- Refineries: all refinery capacities were increased greatly, and capacity is now data-driven so the economy team can adjust it without a patch
- Distribution Centers: the outdoor sections now have harvestable slots, so lootable harvestables can spawn outside as well as inside
- Ship retrieval: ships now change power state correctly when retrieved, and engines are no longer left running when a ship arrives from an ASOP terminal, the console used to call your ships
- Weapon audio: the mix pass on FPS weapon sounds continues as part of a wider weapons audio refactor
Experimental VR updates
VR support in Star Citizen is still labelled experimental. The October 5 build includes a batch of changes for players using a headset.
- StereoZoom 2.0, a reworked zoom that triggers when your headset view lines up with the target, with new console variables to customise it
- Zoom now lines up correctly on the scope when aim direction is decoupled from where you look
- Positional tracking is no longer locked while zoomed
- Mouse smoothing and acceleration no longer reset to zero when switching to VR
- Wearing the headset now counts as activity, so players who are watching without input are not kicked for being idle
- Invisible 3D UI actor icons were fixed
Fixes worth knowing about
The fix most players will notice concerns login stability. A client that silently reconnected after a dropped connection could be mistaken for a second machine and thrown out with a “Duplicate Login” error, which looked like being sent to the main menu for no reason. CIG says that should no longer happen.
CIG labels most of the rest as potential fixes, meaning they still need confirming in testing. Two client crashes were also fixed.
- Lost or stowed vehicles that could not be claimed at an ASOP terminal
- Ships taking heavy or fatal collision damage from the magazine of a weapon the player was carrying when leaving a seat
- Origin X1 and X1 Force weapons becoming unusable when a gimbal was fitted
- Drake Corsair turrets being able to power the ship down
- RSI Apollo medical modules lacking collision, so players could clip into or fall through them
- A strip of the Orison landing pad having no collision
- MISC Prospector tilting when retrieved from a hangar
- Monolith Backpack variants having no storage capacity
- Bounty mission titles giving away the target’s ship type
The TTK balance test is not part of 4.10.2
The first public build on September 25 also carried a weekend test of new ship Time-to-Kill values. CIG said plainly that this was a Tech-Preview folded into the PTU build for convenience and is not intended to arrive with 4.10.2. The September 29 build went back to the normal balance.
What this means for new players
Nothing changes on the live servers until 4.10.2 is released, so a new account today still plays 4.10.1, and you do not need the PTU to get any of this. If you start this week, the patch should make early sessions a little smoother: the Duplicate Login fix targets being dumped to the main menu without explanation, and the retrieval fixes target ships you cannot get back from a terminal. The Stanton event is made of ordinary contract types such as courier, mining, salvage and patrol work, and its one-time courier contract pays out a ship rental, which helps if you only own a starter ship. Frequently Asked Questions
CIG said on October 5, 2026 that it is targeting the live release of Alpha 4.10.2 that week. That is a target, not a confirmed date. The patch has been on the PTU for all backers since October 3.
The PTU notes list a new in-system event in Stanton, a physics networking overhaul for loose objects, greatly increased refinery capacities, harvestables outside Distribution Centers, experimental VR updates and a fix for the Duplicate Login error.
No. A TTK Tech-Preview ran inside the first PTU build over one weekend, and CIG said it is not intended to arrive with 4.10.2. The next build returned to the normal balance.
It kicked players out of a session when their client silently reconnected after a dropped connection and was mistaken for a second machine. Alpha 4.10.2 adds login stability changes that CIG says should stop this.
Yes. Since the October 3 build the test audience is All Waves, meaning all backers. The PTU channel uses US servers only and has long term persistence enabled.
