Star Citizen Alpha 4.10, subtitled Siege of Orison, went live on August 26, 2026. It is the first patch built on instancing, a new piece of server technology that gives your squad a private copy of a mission area while keeping you inside the shared universe. Long-term persistence carries over, so nothing was wiped, and starting aUEC is set at 20,000.
The headline content is a rebuilt Siege of Orison, a cooperative assault against the Nine Tails gang, plus the return of mission giver Recco Battaglia, a rebalance of ship fuel, new weapons and armor, and a long list of fixes. CIG counts 479 in this release. Below is what actually changed, what has been hotfixed since launch, and what it means if you are new or coming back.
Instancing: the technology underneath 4.10
Instancing means that when your group enters an activity, the game spins up a server-backed copy of that area just for you. CIG describes it as the first use of dynamically loading servers for the simulation and a first step toward fully dynamic server meshing. The instance is still part of the game world: the time of day keeps running while you are inside, and when you come back out to the social area there is no loading screen and no time jump.
The reason it matters goes beyond one event. Developers on the Inside CIG episode framed instancing as the way to offer curated PvE content without forcing anyone into PvP. Contested zones and similar areas are meant to stay open and non-instanced, so player-versus-player fights still have their place, but a squad that wants a story mission can now have one to itself.
One practical wrinkle to know about: you cannot quantum travel to a party member who is already inside an instance. The game now flags that target as invalid during calibration. To join them you follow the mission flow to the elevator that takes you into the instance.
Siege of Orison V2: what the event is now
The setup: the Nine Tails gang has launched an assault on Orison, Crusader’s cloud city, killing security and civilians without distinction. Crusader has asked for help, and because Nine Tails has blocked all air traffic into the area, assault teams deploy by secure shuttle rather than flying in. CIG’s own description is that this is not a contract for the weak, and it recommends squadding up.
This is a rebuild from the ground up, not a tune-up of the original. The old Siege was an open-world activity with lots of players and, in CIG’s words, a fair bit of chaos and unpredictability. The new version is designed as a fireteam-sized, cooperative, narrative-driven mission. Entering the instance automatically enrolls your group, and enemies are placed deliberately, including sniper positions, instead of spilling out of spawn closets. The goal is paced combat scenarios rather than fighting overwhelming numbers. The boss encounter with Mandalore was tuned late in testing after testers found him frustratingly accurate.
Some context on the timeline: Siege was originally planned for Alpha 4.9 and pulled because it was not ready, and CIG said openly that 4.10 ran late while the instancing technology was hardened. The episode shows the team counting around 120 bugs to close before release, dealing with NPC desync and instances vanishing, and QA handling six or seven builds a day near the end.
Recco Battaglia returns in Nyx
Battaglia is back as a physical mission giver, and her missions use the same instancing approach as Siege. You reach her through an elevator transition that separates you into your own space, so the conversation is not crowded by other players. CIG’s design team said this let them tell a deeper story arc in Nyx and bring back the kind of in-person mission giver they had not been able to do for a while.
If her later contracts refused to appear for you in the first week, that was a known bug: the September 2 hotfix fixed Story 2 and Story 3 Battaglia contracts not being created properly.
Ships, fuel and gear changes
Beyond the flagship event, the release notes list a set of changes that affect everyday play. The fuel rebalance is the one most likely to catch a returning player off guard.
- Hydrogen and quantum fuel tank capacity and consumption rebalanced across the ship roster, with refueling missions updated to match
- Vehicle armor update
- Ship pricing, claim times and availability adjusted
- New ship: the Kruger S-65 Stingray
- New FPS weapon: the HDGW Arlington rifle
- New FPS gear: BUL-H4 Super Heavy Armor and the Vendetta heavy machine gun
- Loot generation and drop rates changed
- Wikelo Exchange updates
- Performance and streaming polish, server load and instance scaling updates, and experimental VR updates
Stability: 479 fixes and the numbers behind them
CIG says this release closes 479 bug fixes, 101 of which came from Issue Council reports. That includes work on 47 crash and stability issues and 17 exploits. Broken down further, the notes list 20 client crashes, 20 server crashes, 2 issues that hit both, 2 server hangs or deadlocks, and 3 back-end service crashes.
On the Inside CIG episode, one developer said the core 4.10 experience, setting Siege aside, was better than 4.9 or 4.8 as far as they had been told and had experienced. Treat that as a claim from the team rather than a guarantee: the same episode is candid about performance being a weak point and about the amount of retesting each fix triggered.
Hotfixes since launch
CIG keeps a running Hotfix Central thread for changes that ship outside the normal patch cycle. As of September 3 the hotfix channel was open and the team was still investigating long interaction delays across many systems.
- August 27: fixes for audio thread framerate issues on Linux, water shading and buffer issues on ships, holographic upscaling, super heavy armor that could not be unequipped to local inventory, Mendo Ren falling off a balcony or dying after teleport, plus crash and stability fixes
- August 28: fix for super heavy combat armor sound effects playing after unequipping, with crash mitigation rolling out over the weekend
- September 2: D-pad navigation fix that should help macros and voice control, a fix for vehicles being impounded again seconds after retrieval, Mendo Ren sliding off a railing in Siege, and the Battaglia contract fix
- September 3: a client-side crash fix affecting the latest Nvidia drivers
How the HOTFIX channel works
When a fix needs a new client rather than just a server change, CIG opens a HOTFIX channel in the launcher. It points at the LIVE environment, so anything you do there counts toward your normal account. CIG’s suggested approach is to rename your LIVE install folder to HOTFIX, verify the files through the HOTFIX channel in the launcher, and reverse the rename when you want to go back to LIVE.
What this means for new players
If you are creating an account now, you are landing in a patch whose flagship activity is designed for a small squad rather than a crowd, and which CIG says is more stable underneath than the last two releases. Expect rough edges anyway: the hotfix channel is still open and interaction delays are under investigation. A starter package is enough for everything here. Siege deploys you by shuttle, so you do not need a combat ship to take part, and the fuel rebalance means it is worth checking your tank before a long quantum trip. Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Alpha 4.10 reached the LIVE environment on August 26, 2026, with the launcher showing version 4.10.0-LIVE.12519617. Several hotfixes have shipped since, and as of September 3 the HOTFIX channel was open for a client-side crash fix.
No. The release notes list long-term persistence as preserved, so ships, items and aUEC carry over. Starting aUEC for the patch is set at 20,000.
Instancing gives a group its own server-backed copy of a mission area while it stays inside the shared universe. CIG calls it the first use of dynamically loading servers for the simulation and a step toward fully dynamic server meshing. Siege of Orison and the Battaglia missions are the first content built on it.
It is designed as a fireteam-sized cooperative mission, and CIG’s announcement tells players to squad up. The team did run solo and two-player tests against the boss during development, so it is possible, but it is balanced for a small group.
You cannot quantum travel to a party member who is inside an instance; the game marks them as an invalid target. Follow the mission flow yourself and take the elevator into the instance instead.
