CIG’s PU Monthly Report for September 2026, published on October 7, is mostly about missions. The Mission team says it is building a suite of more than 97 new contracts for a future patch that it expects to change how players play, two new factions representing non-combat careers were signed off for development, and Bounty missions have been rebalanced for a later release. The Core Gameplay teams, meanwhile, list two months of fixes to the live game, from freight elevators to quantum travel routes.
There is also hardware news. A new heavy armor and updated brows in the character customizer are coming in Alpha 4.10.2, the Anvil Liberator and RSI Galaxy both moved forward, the Kraken is in detailed production, and five new ship projects started in the UK. Below is what matters from each team, in plain terms.
Missions: 97 new contracts and two new careers
The Mission Design team shipped the Battaglia mission pack with its first mining missions, Orison Relief Support and the first dedicated crafting mission in September, and brought back the Siege of Orison using the new instancing tech. Looking ahead, it is working on a suite of over 97 new contracts for a future patch, which it says changes the way citizens will play, and it recently signed off two new factions for development that represent new careers not focused on combat.
Bounty missions were rebalanced to match the recent ship updates; that change is committed for a future patch rather than 4.10.2. The team also built a new analytics page to read UEC and engagement imbalances more accurately.
Narrative worked on several upcoming mission packs, including a special event that CIG says will debut soon and the many contracts planned for Nyx I, the first Nyx planet. It revised the script for a story mission with multiple new characters, started on contracts that expand what InterSec offers mercenary players, and prepared additions for the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo. AI Content is looking at a new character type for mission gameplay with more interactions and personality, and is adding comms for new faction representatives.
What is coming in Alpha 4.10.2 and Nyx
Character Art held the final review of a new heavy armor releasing in Alpha 4.10.2. Variations will be available as a Wikelo reward and in the store, and the same release includes updated brows in the character customizer.
The team is also updating the gangs that will appear in Nyx: First Legion, Salamanders, Shattered Blades and Moraine, with new armor sets for the First Legion and Salamanders. The Weapon Content team finished a new Lightning Bolt Co. rifle plus paints for upcoming events, has seven more weapons in progress including rifles and a medical pistol, has begun updating several ship weapons, and is planning its 2027 lineup.
Ships: Liberator, Galaxy, Kraken and five new projects
The ship teams reported a busy month. Two unannounced vehicles had final reviews ahead of a planned release alongside Genesis, CIG’s new core technology. Five new projects then kicked off in the UK: the first made rapid progress for its size, the second went through whitebox and had its main turret and external tractor beam moved after feedback, the third entered pre-production, and the fourth and fifth are a pair of ships from a manufacturer not heard from for a while. In North America, production wrapped on a new ship after internal testing.
- Anvil Liberator: greybox work finished, with the formal gate review due in early October and LOD0, the final-detail phase, due to wrap up in late October
- RSI Galaxy: passed its greybox gate review and moved into LOD0, refining corridors, lighting and signage, with work continuing on its modules
- RSI Constellation Mk IV Gold Standard: fixing many minor visual issues from the move to modern material libraries, plus more logical placement of interaction points
- Drake Kraken: LOD0 work across the whole ship, from lifts and the tram to capital components spread over several engineering rooms
- A ship from recent reports passed greybox, with the interior ready for review and the exterior due in early October; another new ship gets a combined LOD0 and final review in October
- Animation created enter and exit animations for an all-new ship, and worked on the apex valakkar’s attacks on ship targets
Fixes to the live game from Core Gameplay
The Core Gameplay teams spent August and September on bugs and quality-of-life items, many from CIG’s Improving the Live Experience Comm-Link. Instancing was finalized for Alpha 4.10, with gaps closed that let ineligible players through instance barriers and more reliable recovery after a server crash. Respawn queues inside instances changed too: if a bed is occupied you now spawn next to it. Research began on bringing instancing to instanced hangars.
Freight elevators got a long list of fixes, including kiosks stuck in a transfer loop, Levski’s external elevators behaving as if in zero gravity, and item stacks not tracked correctly during retrieval. A limit on loose items was added because redeeming very large numbers of small items, CIG’s example is 20,000 water bottles, could crash the kiosk. Missions that need several of the same item now accept them all in one hand-in.
- Quantum travel: collision checks restored so routes no longer pass through moons and other large objects, stations no longer block routes plotted from inside them, and routes in Stanton can now go around the sun
- Vehicles: refueling accounts for the docking connection’s position, fuel nozzles no longer dump fuel on a cancelled transaction, shields recharge after crossing a server boundary, and the Grey’s Market Basher can be repaired at landing pads
- Some newer ships become disabled when a critical part is destroyed instead of exploding at once, and radar can detect contacts across the connected areas of a location
- Ship retrieval: fixed the cause of ships disappearing near hangars, ships spawning in a quantum-travel state, and landing gear stuck in the hangar after retrieval
- Cargo and hauling: pickups distributed by SCU, fixed spawn and delivery counts, the MISC Hull C auto-loading in loading zones, and ore sales at commodity traders
- Inventory: filter and sort menus closing properly, keycards no longer vanishing into a hidden slot, Stack All no longer reverting, and inventory restored when leaving prison
- Starchitect missions can be accepted from mission boards, share resource locations across missions and can end on a random outcome; trespass areas at those locations were fixed
Servers, tools and rendering
The Network team’s main project is a new system called Claims, which decides which servers are responsible for which parts of the universe, including planets, activities and instanced events. CIG describes it as groundwork for assigning territory more flexibly and reliably. The team also started grouping instanced activities by type so content can stream in differently depending on the kind of event or location.
Online Services spent the month on mission reliability: a reputation data mix-up that occasionally showed the wrong mission was fixed, delays before new contracts appear are being reduced, and the generic Contract No Longer Available error is being replaced with clearer in-game messaging. Live Tools rebuilt account and group pages for its Hex 4.0 tool, began a client rebuild for Bootstrap, and added crash-listing filters to error reporting.
R&D continued on volumetric clouds and render modes. A new quarter-resolution render mode was added as a performance option alongside the half-resolution and temporal modes, filtering was improved so a planet’s thin atmosphere silhouette reconstructs properly from far orbit, and shadow map encoding was changed to reduce banding on terrain under low sun and ground fog. All recent weather, atmosphere and cloud work merged into the development streams.
Community: a Squadron 42 event in October
The Community team’s September covered the Ship Showdown champion, the RSI Perseus, the Orison Relief Support FAQ, the Sabre Raven EX and ATLS IKTI Akuma Q&A, the Pirate Week treasure hunt and Most Wanted contest, and the launch of the 10 From the Community video format. Bar Citizen stopped in Seattle for PAX West, Milan and Porto.
One line is worth noting for Squadron 42 followers: preparation continued for an October event where a group of original backers and content creators will try the game for the first time. CIG also reminded players that the Game Library system launches in October, with pledge gifting and game access changes meant to give a clearer account experience across Squadron 42 and Star Citizen.
What this means for new players
Most of this report describes work you will not see for months, but the fixes section is about the game you would download today. Ships disappearing near hangars, elevators that eat items, inventory stacks that revert and quantum routes through moons are the kind of problems that make a first week frustrating, and CIG says those are fixed or being fixed. The 97 new contracts and two non-combat careers are the long-term signal: the game is heading toward more ways to earn without fighting, which suits a new player in a starter ship. Nothing in the report changes what to buy first. Our Star Citizen referral code guide explains how the 50,000 UEC signup bonus works and how to apply code STAR-6WPK-3K56 before you enlist.
