Star Citizen Roadmap Roundup October 9, 2026: planet subdivision tentative for Alpha 4.11

Star Citizen Roadmap Roundup October 9: planet subdivision for 4.11

CIG published its Roadmap Roundup on October 9, 2026, two days later than planned, after Alpha 4.10.2 reached the live servers. The one new piece of future news is a card called DGS Planet Subdivision in the Alpha 4.11 column, set to Tentative, which splits planets and moons into smaller territories so that no single game server has to carry a whole world. Nyx I is named as the first planet to get it.

The rest of the update is bookkeeping for the patch that just shipped. Four cards tied to RSI Discovery Month were added to the Alpha 4.10 column and marked Released, and the three Nyx planet cards received new images. For players, the practical message is that 4.10.2 is the live game for now and 4.11 is still being shaped around Nyx.

What changed on the roadmap

CIG pairs every roadmap update with a short Roundup that explains the changes. The October 9 edition was pushed back from its usual Wednesday slot; the previous week’s This Week in Star Citizen post said the Roundup would wait until Alpha 4.10.2 was live, which happened on Friday, October 9. The Release View shows five notable changes.

  • RSI Discovery Month Event added to Alpha 4.10 and set to Released
  • RSI Constellation Series Mk IV Gold Standard added to Alpha 4.10 and set to Released
  • RSI Constellation Mk V Centaurus added to Alpha 4.10 and set to Released
  • RSI Skylark added to Alpha 4.10 and set to Released
  • DGS Planet Subdivision added to Alpha 4.11 and set to Tentative
  • Nyx I, Nyx II and Nyx III cards updated with new images

DGS Planet Subdivision: the new Alpha 4.11 card

A DGS is a Dynamic Game Server, one of the servers that together simulate a shard of the game world under server meshing. Today a single DGS can end up responsible for an entire planet or moon. The new tech divides each body into smaller territories and hands those territories out to whichever servers are available, so the load from a busy planet is spread across several machines instead of landing on one.

CIG says the territory boundaries are not drawn by hand. They come from clustering the entities that Genesis, the new planet generation technology, scatters across a surface, so areas with more content become their own regions. The stated goals are better load distribution and a path to finer-grained server meshing at planetary scale. Nyx I will be the first planet built this way.

The card sits in the Alpha 4.11 column with the Tentative status, which is the weaker of the two forward-looking labels on the Release View; CIG uses Committed when it is confident a card will make a patch. The Roundup does not give a date for 4.11. The September 9 Roundup moved the patch to a fourth quarter 2026 target, and nothing in this update changes that.

Four Discovery Month cards marked Released

The Alpha 4.10 column picked up four new cards, all of which shipped in 4.10.2. RSI Discovery Month is the limited-time event itself, with RSI installations placed around the Stanton system and Defense, Transport and Collection missions. The Constellation Mk IV Gold Standard card covers the rebuild of the Aquila, Taurus, Andromeda and Phoenix: new art, gameplay changes, physicalised components, better cockpit visibility and a refreshed HUD.

The other two cards are the ships RSI is celebrating. The Constellation Mk V Centaurus is described as a multi-role, multi-crew ship that handles cargo and combat, and the Skylark is the snub fighter that lives inside its redesigned hull. A Released card means the ship exists in the live build. In 4.10.2 the way to fly the Centaurus and the Skylark is the event’s five-day rental, earned by finishing the Constellation Rental Offer contract; the Roundup says nothing about when or whether the ship goes on sale.

Nyx I, II and III: the planets behind the new images

The three Nyx planet cards were refreshed with new images, and the Roundup repeats the short descriptions that go with them. Nyx I is a coreless planet, the closest to the system’s star, that was long thought impossible to terraform until experimental work by Genesis Terraforming gave it an ecosphere that now supports a wide range of life. That is the world picked to debut planet subdivision.

Nyx II is the opposite kind of place: hot, with a dense high-pressure atmosphere and thick cloud cover, where protective gear is recommended and the risk of working the surface has kept commercial development away despite some resources. Nyx III is an ice giant with no breathable atmosphere that CIG describes as a poor candidate for large-scale resource extraction.

Planet tech is moving on two fronts

The subdivision card is not the only planet work in progress. The October 5 This Week in Star Citizen post said the first Evocati-only tech preview of Planet Tech V5 ran the previous week, described as the first step toward bringing the new planetary technology into the Persistent Universe, with wider testing to follow. Evocati is CIG’s closed group of early testers, so there is no public build to try yet.

Taken together, the two items point at the same destination: Nyx I built with the new planet tech and served by subdivided servers. Neither has a public date, and the Tentative label on the server card is a reminder that 4.11’s contents can still move.

What this means for new players

Nothing in this Roundup changes what to do today. Alpha 4.10.2 is live, RSI Discovery Month is running in Stanton until October 20, and the Constellation Mk V rental is the most interesting thing to chase this month. Nyx is a future system with no date, so there is no reason to hold off starting or to buy a ship with Nyx in mind. If you are curious about server meshing, the subdivision card is a good example of the kind of under-the-hood work that decides how smooth the game feels, but it will arrive as a patch note rather than something you have to prepare for. Frequently Asked Questions

What is DGS Planet Subdivision in Star Citizen?

It is a technology, listed on the roadmap for Alpha 4.11 as Tentative, that splits planets and moons into smaller territories so a single Dynamic Game Server never has to run an entire body. Territories are assigned dynamically to available servers, and Nyx I will be the first planet to use it.

When is Star Citizen Alpha 4.11 coming out?

The October 9, 2026 Roadmap Roundup does not give a date. CIG’s September 9 Roundup set a fourth quarter 2026 target, and the new DGS Planet Subdivision card is only Tentative, so treat 4.11’s timing and contents as subject to change.

Is the Constellation Mk V Centaurus released?

Its roadmap card was set to Released with Alpha 4.10.2, meaning the ship is in the live build. During RSI Discovery Month you fly it through a five-day rental earned from the Constellation Rental Offer contract. The Roundup does not say when it will be sold.

Will Nyx I be in Alpha 4.11?

The Roundup names Nyx I as the first planet to use DGS Planet Subdivision, and that card sits in the Alpha 4.11 column as Tentative. The Nyx I, II and III cards were updated with new images, but CIG has not committed the planet to a specific patch.

Why was the October 2026 Roadmap Roundup late?

CIG’s This Week in Star Citizen post for October 5 said the Roadmap Update and Roundup would be published after Alpha 4.10.2 reached the live servers, instead of on the usual Wednesday. The patch went live on October 9 and the Roundup followed the same day.
