CIG’s This Week in Star Citizen post for October 12, 2026 has one piece of real news: around 140 community members spent the weekend of October 10 in Manchester playing Squadron 42, the first time anyone outside the company has had hands-on time with the single-player game. The rest of the week brings a Twitch Drops campaign, a new store bundle and the Behind the Ships episode that revealed the Constellation Mk V Centaurus.
If you only want one thing from this post: link your Twitch and RSI accounts and watch four hours of Star Citizen streams between October 14 and 27 for a free Phoenix Insignia Display for your hangar.
The first Squadron 42 hands-on event
October 10 is Star Citizen’s birthday, and this year CIG marked it by inviting around 140 community members to Manchester, where the Squadron 42 team is based. Guests played Squadron 42 for five hours, then spent a further hour in a separate chapter set aboard a drifting Xi’an ship, a sequence CIG says was briefly glimpsed at CitizenCon in 2954.
CIG did not say how the guests were chosen beyond thanking Bar Citizen organisers, artists, lore writers, content creators and long-time supporters, and it acknowledged it could only invite a small fraction of the people it would have liked to. It says photos from the weekend will follow, and that attendees are free to talk about what they played, so expect first-hand impressions from them. No release date was given; CIG only repeated that it is getting closer to launch and pointed to the Steam wishlist page.
Twitch Drops: Phoenix Insignia Display, October 14 to 27
The new Twitch Drops campaign is tied to RSI Discovery Month. From October 14 to October 27, watching any Star Citizen stream marked Drops Enabled for a total of four hours unlocks the Phoenix Insignia Display, a holographic hangar decoration based on the fiery emblem inside the Constellation Phoenix. Any community streamer who opts in can host the drop, so you are not limited to CIG’s own channel.
You need a linked account first. In your RSI account dashboard open Settings, then Linked Accounts, click the Twitch button and authorise the connection. Once the four hours are up, claim the drop in your Twitch inventory and it appears in your RSI hangar shortly after. You do not need Prime Gaming or Amazon Luna, one RSI account can be linked to only one Twitch account, and if a claimed drop never arrives CIG says to contact Player Support.
The Runic store bundle
October’s store bundle, released on Tuesday October 13, is called Runic. The theme is a weathered black and gold finish with geometric etchings, applied to the Kilgore and Poole Monolith heavy armor set, the Gemini R97 shotgun and a paint for the Origin M80. Store bundles, formerly called patch bundles, are limited-time cosmetic packs that arrive on the second Tuesday of each month, so this one will not stay on sale indefinitely.
Last week’s recap and this week’s schedule
The post also rounds up last week: RSI Discovery Month began with its Constellation installations across Stanton and the five-day Centaurus rental, October’s subscriber promotions added skeleton-themed flair with the Pitbull and Ironclad Assault as vehicles of the month, the September monthly report went out, and the roadmap update added images for the Nyx I to III planets and a new DGS Planet Subdivision card under Alpha 4.11.
This week’s community MVP is a two-part video called A Bit Overkill by Tortue69. The schedule for the rest of the week is short.
- Monday October 12: Twitch Drops Comm-Link
- Tuesday October 13: October store bundle (Runic)
- Wednesday October 14: Behind the Ships on the Alpha 4.10.2 ships, and the Twitch Drops campaign begins
- Friday October 16: RSI weekly newsletter by email, if you are subscribed in your account settings
What this means for new players
Nothing this week changes what to buy or when to start. The Twitch Drop is the easiest free item you will get this month and only needs a linked account, and the Centaurus rental in Discovery Month is still running until October 20 if you want to try a large ship without pledging for one. The Squadron 42 news is a sign the single-player game is far enough along to put in front of outsiders, but there is still no date. Our Star Citizen referral code guide explains how the 50,000 UEC signup bonus works and how to apply code STAR-6WPK-3K56 before you enlist.
